Accepting Direction without Reservation

Hamasadutta Dasa: Because I often used to be worried about money, Prabhupada told me, "Don't worry about money. Try to do something wonderful for Krishna and money will come." That was his policy, his theme, and the basis of his operation. After all, Prabhupada came to America with practically no money but with the idea of preaching to intelligent people. By default, he wound up in the Bowery with the most degraded class of people, who are the ones who heard and carried his message. Now I hear many of Prabhupada's disciples say, "I didn't get a chance to associate with Prabhupada." But these disciples were not kept away from him. Prabhupada was accessible to everyone, but that access was conditional. You had to be prepared to accept any direction anytime, anywhere, without reservation. If that wasn't there, you couldn't come too close to Prabhupada. You had to keep a distance. At least that was my experience. After one Sunday feast in Montreal, I made a collection and I thought, "Now I have something to write to Prabhupada." I wrote and I received a letter in response. From that time on I thought, "I must always do something that warrants reporting so that I will get a response." I needed that.
