The Story Of The Oranges

Shanka Dasa: I'll also tell of a few significant chastisements that I got. One day Mother Palika asked me to go to the market to buy fruit for Srila Prabhupada. I was buying fruits when I saw a big pile of oranges. I said, "Wow, beautiful oranges." I had one cut open, it tasted great, and I bought a big bag of oranges for Srila Prabhupada. About three days later, towards the end of a morning walk, Srila Prabhupada started talking about how the material world is a perverted reflection of the spiritual world. Then he said, "Who has bought me those oranges?" I was puffed up thinking, "I'm going to be glorified." I said, "Srila Prabhupada, I bought the oranges." Srila Prabhupada said, "Those oranges are tenth class just like you." He said the oranges had been picked during the ripe season, refrigerated, and then sold for a high price during the off-season.
