Matter should be permanently settled at the G.B.C. meeting in Mayapur

The following day, while I was preparing lunch and Srila Prabhupada was bathing, Ramesvara and two G.B.C. men from America suddenly arrived at the door of the apartment. I was completely surprised, as they had not notified us in any way. Srila Prabhupada soon heard their voices, and the next thing I knew they were walking into his room. Prabhupada was also visibly startled to see so many devotees come suddenly from the U.S. to see him. They told him they just had to come to him to settle the problem of who would take over the work of the now resigned G.B.C. secretary for the western U.S. Srila Prabhupada agreed to meet with them and asked them to stay for lunch. Fortunately I had cooked a large enough quantity to give at least one plate to each man. When one of the men expressed surprise that the cooking was so good, Srila Prabhupada acknowledged that I was learning. Pleased by Prabhupada's words, I was content to remain in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning, while Prabhupada discussed with Ramesvara and the others. Had I not been Prabhupada's menial servant, I could have participated in the discussion. But I was satisfied. I had my own heavy duties and I gladly took the opportunity the meeting afforded to catch up on my typing. For a couple of hours Srila Prabhupada gave directions, at least provisionally, how things should be managed in Karandhara's absence. He said that the matter should be permanently settled at the G.B.C. meeting in Mayapur next month. Days and nights passed happily in Hawaii. Prabhupada dictated Caitanya-caritamrita at a good rate, enjoyed the available fruits and juices, daily met with the devotees at the temple to give Bhagavatam class and go on his walk, and continued our exclusive evening Program in his room.
