The worst offense to Vrindavana is to commit illicit sex here.

Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami: In the evening lecture there was more. Prabhupada spoke on a Bhagavatam verse before a room so crowded with guests that they were also standing in the adjoining room, straining to see and hear. "India is the only land that has spiritual knowledge. There is no doubt about it," said Prabhupada. "But instead of distributing this knowledge, the government is opening wine and beef shops. I went alone to the West to preach Bhagavad-gita, and now these American boys and girls are helping me. Those who say that these Western devotees are fools are simply envious. My Guru Maharaja gave an example of an envious person. One envious man heard that his friend had become a judge. ?No, it cannot be,' he said. ?Yes, I have seen him on the high court bench,' someone replied. Then the envious man said, 'Oh, then he must not be getting a salary.' In this way they are always envious."

Prabhupada went on to speak of the meaning of Vrindavana and how it cannot be understood with material vision. "Vrindavana is nondifferent from Krishna. It is cintamani-dhama. Narottama dasa says that it is not possible to see Vrindavana if you have vishayi, material desires. So we should take shelter of Gaura-Nitai and become cleansed of the desire for eating, sleeping, and mating. "There are many devotees who leave their families and come to Vrindavana, giving up all material desires, and completely depending on Krishna. They are not disturbed even by heat or cold.

"But there are others, the sahajiyas, whose personal behavior is offensive. Although they talk of Krishna's intimate pastimes with the gopis, they spend their time smoking bidis, and thinking of money and women. "Vrindavana-dhama is worshipable. Don't commit an offense here. It is not a place for eating prasadam and sleeping, but for following the advice of Vrindavana Candra, Krishna, and broadcasting His message. If you avoid offenses, you will see Vrindavana."

After one of Prabhupada's evening talks, one of the devotees asked whether the service one does in Vrindavana has a special effect. "Yes," Prabhupada replied, "if you do one-percent service here it has the effect one hundred times. And whatever offense you commit in Vrindavana also has the effect one hundred times. Ordinary persons are therefore advised to visit a holy place for no more than three days, because once they get acclimatized to the place, they will begin their sinful activities. Better come, become purified, and leave on the fourth day. The worst offense to Vrindavana is to commit illicit sex here. "

So it is very risky. Just like if a gambler has the opportunity to profit a hundred times or a hundred times lose. That is the special atmosphere of Vrindavana. And you cannot play hide and seek with Krishna. The sun and moon are His eyes, and He is also in your heart. Krishna knows everything. Just as I know everything in my room, Krishna knows everything everywhere. He even knows what you are planning and thinking in your heart.

So you cannot play tricks with Krishna. Those who want to be devotees have to be sincere. Nor should devotees accept one part of what Krishna says and reject the other. Arjuna, for example, said, I totally accept everything You have said - That goes for all devotees. They should follow Arjuna's examples. Be sincere with Krishna and His representative. Preach this gospel of Bhagavad-gita As It Is and become a spiritual master." When Prabhupada closed the evening, the guests all offered their obeisances in thanks and began to exit, passing through the servant's room.

It was a gala spiritual and social event for Vrindavana, and everyone seemed very pleased with Srila Prabhupada. Finally, I was again alone with Srila Prabhupada. He asked for a cup of hot milk and some puri and eggplant, which I helped Yamuna prepare in the kitchen. I brought all these things to Prabhupada and later cleaned his eating place while he washed his mouth.
