Prabhupada's Vision

Hamasdutta Dasa: Another example is, how Shyamasundar connected with George Harrison. That was an extraordinary thing. The whole world was waiting at George's door, but by the genius, inspiration, and enthusiasm of Shyamasundar, Krishna opened George's door for Shyamasundar. Prabhupada taught us that there is no harm in trying.  In Montreal, when we had no money and could hardly pay the rent, Prabhupada saw a big government building that was for sale across from McGill University and he told Janardan, "Ask how much they want for this building." Janardan said, "It's got to be more than a million dollars." Prabhupada said, "Just enquire. Tell them we have ten thousand dollars and we'll pay them a thousand dollars a month." From a business point of view, that was an absurd proposal, but Prabhupada had noticed that this building had facility for a shop or restaurant and he asked me if I could generate a thousand dollars a month profit from running a restaurant there. I said, "I guess I could" so Prabhupada urged Janardan to make this offer. Janardan was reluctant because it didn't seem realistic. We didn't get the building, but we learned about Prabhupada's vision. Prabhupada saw that Krishna could do anything.
