Hundreds of devotees flew into Calcutta from America and Europe on 22
February 1977 to attend the fourth annual Gaura Purnima festival in Mayapur
and Vrindavana. The best organized yet. On the morning of the 25th, they were
joined by a large contingent of Australian devotees who arrived at the Mayapur
Chandrodaya Mandir, eager to take part in the kirtanas, attend the packed
evening arati and pandal programs, and render their usual humble service.
With Gaura Purnima only about one week away, thousands of Bengali pilgrims
streamed through the front gates. Srila Prabhupada sat in his room with
Bali-mardana, Hari-sauri and Tamal Krishna Goswami. Bali-mardana had been
telling Srila Prabhupada about the new Australian farm in Northern New South
Wales. In response, Prabhupada advised Bali-mardana: "You produce milk on the farm, [you] utilize and give the cows protection.
Grow fodder. They will eat that leaf. The grains, milk, ghee then we can
maintain hundreds and thousands of devotees in any place. Chant Hare Krishna
and take nice food. Our philosophy is: Eat nicely, live nicely, and advance in
Krishna consciousness".
