The most precious thing the British left behind

Mahamana Dasa: When Prabhupada came to London one time, in that press conference, one reporter asked, "Swamiji," he asked in a very challenging mood, "why did you come here?" He was challenging, "What is the need for you to come here?"

Prabhupada replied, "I came here to give you what you left behind, what you forgot when you left India. Your British people..." They took everything from India, which is true. They took the Kohinoor. Tharoor said that a few days ago. He could say it much better than I, he has more statistics than myself. He told in a debate in Oxford, how they made millions of people starve in India so that the British coffers could fill up. I don't have the statistics.

But the point that I am making is, Prabhupada said, "You took away everything from India, except the most valuable thing. That you left behind there." So this person was not convinced. He was thinking perhaps we did bring everything, what is it that we left. (laughing) He was thinking that perhaps some other jewel is left, or something like that, maybe more precious than the Kohinoor. So he was thinking, asking with that mentality. Prabhupada replied that, "The most precious thing you left behind in India only, and that is the culture of India. Sanskriti, the religion of India, that you forgot there. You did not bring. That will save the whole world."
