Gargamuni Dasa: When I was initiated on October 23rd 1966, Prabhupada told me the meaning of 'Gargamuni.' Years after, Prabhupada gave me different answers on the meaning of 'Gargamuni.' There's not just one meaning. Originally Gargamuni means 'the astrologer for Krishna.' He was the astrologer.
Later on Praphupada called me 'Garga-mani' and he actually gave the Sanskrit transliteration for 'Gargamani.' He said, "Garga in Sanskrit means 'a pot full' and 'mani' means 'money.' So 'pot full of money' and then he laughed.
Then Prabhupada used the word 'Gargamuni' to mean that I was expert at keeping accounts for Krishna and responsible for Krishna's money and not miss-spending Krishna's money. I was very good at that. I didn't miss-spend it, I was a good manager. No one complained about my management either in America or in India.
