Vrindavana parikrama with Prabhupada

Gargamuni DasaThen we went to Vrindavana and Prabhupada took us on parikrama to most of the holy places, to Barsana, to Radha-kunda. He chastised us because we were jumping into Radha-kunda and doing cannonballs, making big splashes. We weren't supposed to do that. In fact, Prabhupada said we shouldn't even go into Radha-kunda. We should just touch or put the water on our heads, that this is the private bath for Radha and Krishna, not for you.

I know some people go inside, but they're not supposed to, because they put their feet in there. You're not supposed to put your feet in there, that's an offense. So how can you enter it without putting your feet in, you see. You're supposed to sit there on the stairs and take the water and put it on your head. I don't know if it was exactly Radha-kunda we did that; it was one of the kundas we were doing cannonballs. It was real cold - this is wintertime - but really nice, because the kundas weren't dirty in those days, they were clean.

So Prabhupada chastised us - we should be respectful. But we didn't know how to act. In those days we weren't even neophytes, we were less than neophytes because everything was new to us - the culture, the life, the language - everything was new. So we had to learn by mistake, that's how you learn, you make mistakes.
