Yogeshvara : The first time I ever saw Srila Prabhupada was a tiny photograph on the altar in the devotees' hotel room. It was the photograph that Gurudas took in London in which Srila Prabhupada has a very sober expression. There is a chadar for the background. The Bhagavatams are on one side of Prabhupada, and on the other side he has his hand in his bead bag. I couldn't understand the photograph.
When I met Gurudas about six months later I asked him, "Why is Prabhupada so sober? I thought Krishna consciousness was a happy thing, why is he so serious?" Gurudas said that he had shown that photo to Srila Prabhupada and asked the same question. Prabhupada answered, "You are unable to recognize ecstasy." I've got a long way to go too.
