By 1970, Srila Prabhupada's disciples were seen chanting and dancing on the streets of New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. They were now known as the Hare Krishnas, shaven headed westerners, wearing shikas, Vaishnava tilaka and saffron robes, playing karatalas and mridangas and quoting Sanskrit verses from the Bhagavad-gita, affirming Lord Krishna to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
