Initiation ceremony in Toronto, 1976.

Hari Sauri: In Toronto, 1976, because of Srila Prabhupada's presence, there was a good turn out from the Indian community for the initiation ceremony. So despite discomfort from his toothache, Prabhupada spoke strongly for twenty minutes from the instructions of Lord Rishabhadeva on the importance of using the human form to rise above the animal tendencies to the platform of brahminical life by the process of tapasya.

Pushta Krishna Maharaja is behind with his typing he chose not to attend. In his place, I handed out the beads for Srila Prabhupada to give to each devotee as they came up to his vyasasana. Pradyumna dealt with the names. One by one, each of the twelve new initiates came forward to make their pledge to follow the regulations and receive their new spiritual names. Srila Prabhupada then returned to his room to bestow Gayatri mantra to the eight brahmana initiates.
