March 12, 1972 : Vrindavan

Mahanidhi: While Srila Prabhupada was in Bombay attending a preaching function, six devotees (Devananda Maharaja, Subal Maharaja, Anand Maharaja, Guru dasa, Sacidananda, and Ksirodakasayi) were living in his rooms at Radha-Damodara. Prabhupada's disciples were negotiating the land for ISKCON's Vrindavan project.

During the day the devotees had kirtana, arati, and class in Prabhupada's bedroom, and at night a few slept there to escape the intolerable summer heat. Anand Maharaja, Prabhupada's godbrother and former personal cook of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, prepared the devotee's daily prasadam which they honored while sitting on Prabhupada's veranda.

On March 12, 1972, ISKCON signed the deed for the Raman Reti land, future site of the Krishna-Balarama temple. Ksirodakasayi, who secured the property for Prabhupada, portrays the social climate at that time.

Ksirodakasayi : The residents of Vrindavan were not so favorable to the devotees when they first arrived. But after seeing their determination in performing Harinama sankirtana every day, even in summer's scorching sun, they were very impressed that the devotees were serious.
